I've had an exciting year - two of my projects from the past five years have come to fruition and are available to the public.
Each project possesses its own set of challenges and fulfillments, risks and rewards. The two projects I list below stand out in particular, because of the outstanding talents and beautiful spirits of the two ladies I've had the pleasure of working with - Linda Imperial and Kim Kuzma.
"Destination You"
Linda Imperial
Free Mountain Studios
Novato, California
Linda Imperial is not only one of my most treasured friends, but also one of my mentors.
I produced the title track from the album, "Destination You", as well as two club edits of this song, written by Linda Imperial, and dedicated to her husband and my other mentor, David Freiberg, who is an industry legend and synonymous with Jefferson Airplane and Quicksilver Messenger Service.
I wanted the radio edit to have a timeless sound and laidback feel - something for a lazy Sunday evening, smooth and in the acid or mushroom jazz genre. The entire album is awesome and Linda's killer voice, songwriting skills and of course the production, will definitely blow you away.
"Destination You" is available everywhere CD's are sold, including CDBaby and iTunes.
The angel of my deliverance at a most critical time in my life, was none other than the outstanding, number one selling indie artist from Canada, Kim Kuzma.
From the first moment I heard Kim Kuzma begin to sing, I knew hers was a voice that I had to work with in the studio. We exchanged our music and info, and one day I received a call from Kim, asking me to produce her second album.
I was a little nervous, especially considering Kim was voted Canada's Best Independent Artist in 2001 for her debut album entitled, "Contradictions". I knew any follow up album would have to at least meet, but more respectively, exceed Kim Kuzma fan expectations.
From the beginning, it was truly a collaboration. Kim wanted upbeat, danceable, fun music - music that made people want to dance, and at the same time, carry a message of being true to yourself and finding out 'who you are'.
It was important to me that we maintained integrity to Kim's vision from the beginning, and perhaps it was the constraint of the two month time period we had to write, record, mix and master the whole project that kept us moving forward with singleness of vision. More likely, it was the brilliance Kim brought to the project and I simply strived to match the music to her amazing vocals, and let the message come through in the production.
"Who You Are" is available from iTunes, CDBaby and from Kim's website: www.kimkuzma.com.

A classical child prodigy at the age four and a Second-Generation Brahms student, Steven set aside his classical interests at sixteen to pursue writing original music, preferring not to another interpreting performer of existing compositions, but rather to leave his own musical mark on the world.
He began to compose at age eleven, gathering inspiration from his diverse musical inspirations, such as Prince, Michael Jackson, George Michael, Streisand, Garland, Patti La Belle, Motown and everything in between from broadway to contemporary pop, and acid jazz to ambient and electronica.
Being a firm believer in nurturing new talent, Steven co-founded Aureus Music, a San Francisco based independent music publishing company & recording facility offering composition, production, replication & distribution and publishing services. Integrating all media, the newly named,
Aureus Media, released Steven's electronica dance album, "Nu Heaven" in 2004, with mainly instrumental music, and some killer vocals courtesy of Linda Imperial and Caroline Lund.
Currently in production, Steven's follow-up album will focus exclusively on original ballads.
